Southern Beauty

I’m in a Robert Frost kind of mood today, so I was inspired to take some pictures of the leaves turning around my house.

GATHERING LEAVES

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who’s to say where
The harvest shall stop?

  1. I’m in the same kind of mood. The trees are gorgeous around here.

  2. Other than my bro passing out “invoices” for the family vacay next summer, it was pretty good. Lots of laughter, good food, and misbehaving kids getting in trouble with the man of the house. Great times.

  7. Gorgeous pictures, ma’am! Nice size land you got there! Y’all keeping it up too! :) You live in the country? Your place reminds me of some of my family’s homes in NC.
